“Desert Brew” concerns the efforts of
Mrs. Marshall to cure her husband of the drink habit. To this end she has taken Marshall and her daughter,
Joe, out to a ranch, far from town influences. Hither comes by accident, Woods Morgan, a popular novelist
in search of new material, and incidentally of a mine which has been located for him among the foothills;
and Mrs. Marshall, recognizing him under his nom-de-plume of Bill Woods, enlists his help in locating the
secret source from which Marshall is steadily procuring liquor. Hither also comes Carter, a revenue
officer trying to locate a bootlegger's still. The result is a complicated game of hide-and-seek, in which
Western episodes and Western humor are employed with all the deftness born of accurate knowledge and skilful
literary technique. |
