J.A. Shuck was a professional
photographer who worked in El Reno, Oklahoma Territory, from 1904 until his death in 1952. This
collection consists of 172 photographs; most taken in Shuck's studio in El Reno, or in the
geographical vicinity. More than half of the pictures are studio portraits of Arapaho and Cheyenne Indians
in native dress. The other photographs in the collection include scenes of Indian encampments and ceremonies,
teachers and students at the Concho Indian School, people at the Darlington Indian Agency, and military events
at Fort Reno. |
